Summer Academy 2025
Two Weeks of Energy. Exposure. Competition. Growth. Brotherhood. Possibility.
For two weeks in the summer of 2025, California State University, Long Beach became more than a college campus for dozens of young men across Southern California. It became a proving ground. A launch pad. A glimpse into what their future could become. The 8th Annual BOSS Summer Academy brought together middle school and high school scholars for a high-energy experience blending academic enrichment, entrepreneurship, STEM learning, leadership development, athletics, mentorship, workforce exposure, and brotherhood into a single immersive environment.
From the moment students arrived each morning, the atmosphere carried purpose. Days began with “Jump Start” workouts featuring ladders, hurdles, conditioning drills, and team challenges designed to reinforce discipline, preparation, resilience, and accountability. But Summer Academy was never simply about physical training. It was about building complete young men. Inside CSULB computer labs, students engaged in daily math and reading development through IXL and literacy platforms while also diving into AI learning, business development, entrepreneurship, and pitch competition preparation. Middle school students explored AI-powered business concepts while high school scholars developed ideas for competitive business presentations designed to strengthen creativity, communication, and problem-solving.
Every day also included “Good to Great” leadership sessions grounded in BOSS philosophy and principles: become comfortable being uncomfortable, cultivate a moral compass, learn from defeat, work on yourself, commit to mastery, and remain teachable and coachable. These conversations challenged students to think differently about discipline, leadership, preparation, and the type of person they were becoming.
The Academy extended far beyond the classroom. Students participated in keynote sessions with leaders from mental health, entertainment, electric vehicle workforce development, entrepreneurship, and real estate industries. They toured the Alienware Training Facility in Santa Monica, interacted with professionals across industries, explored technology and gaming environments, and connected classroom learning to real-world opportunity. The experience intentionally exposed scholars to environments many had never previously imagined themselves entering.
Creativity and expression were woven throughout the experience as well. Students participated in sketching and artistic expression sessions while strengthening communication and confidence in front of peers. Meanwhile, friendships and brotherhood formed naturally through shared meals, team challenges, campus experiences, and daily interaction.
The Academy concluded with a Closing Ceremony celebrating achievement, growth, and effort. Students earned recognition across academics, AI and machine learning, entrepreneurship, athletics, leadership, and personal development. Awards included Summer Academy MVP, AI/Machine Learning Awards, IXL Math and Reading Awards, Most Improved recognitions, Business Pitch Competition honors, and athletic distinctions including Strongest BOSS, Fastest BOSS, and Most Athletic BOSS.
But the true impact of Summer Academy could not be measured by certificates alone.
It was visible in the excitement on students’ faces walking across a university campus wearing BOSS shirts with pride. It was visible in the confidence gained from presenting ideas publicly, competing with peers, solving problems, meeting professionals, and beginning to see themselves differently. It was visible in the energy, laughter, competitiveness, conversations, mentorship, and belief that filled each day.
Summer Academy 2025 was not simply a camp.
It was developmental infrastructure in motion. A place where young men strengthened their minds, bodies, confidence, creativity, brotherhood, and vision for what is possible next.
