8th Annual Summer Academy

Our 8th Annual BOSS Summer Academy was a huge success. We welcomed 75 BOSS scholars to the campus of CSULB for daily fortification in math and language arts ahead of the start of the 24-25 school year and daily programming around our foundational pillars and Good to Great principles led by our founder. Our middle schoolers were exposed to AI and machine learning, the beginning of a process to empower them with valuable skills for future careers, fostering innovation, critical thinking, and opportunities for them to ultimately shape technology in ways that reflect their unique perspectives and experiences. Using AI, our middle schoolers each produced a movie trailer/commercial and gained valuable insight into positive usage of the tool.

Our high schoolers were exposed to Python to provide them with a foundational skill in programming, enabling them to develop applications, automate tasks, analyze data, and ultimately launch careers in software development, data science, and artificial intelligence! Using python, our high schoolers produced music in  a number of genres.

Highlights included a visit to the Alienware Training Facility for Team Liquid in Santa Monica, a state-of-the-art esports training center. The boys were also treated to a tour of the Port of Long Beach, which provided the opportunity for them to get close to operations at one of the busiest ports in the nation. They saw towering cranes, massive vessels, the most advanced and green terminal in the world, new infrastructure projects such as the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, and even caught a glimpse of local marine life. They also learned about the variety of groundbreaking green programs the Port has implemented to reduce the environmental impact of operations.

Our summer academy is the beginning of our year-round and multi-year “process” to inspire, equip and empower BOSS scholars to be transformed, moving them from spectator to driver in their life’s journey.
